Another One Bites the Dust!

Filed under: Hostels, NewsChris Hunt @ 9:40 am

Hard on the heels of good news about Kington comes some bad news about Shining Cliff. The YHA have announced that the 22-bed hostel will close at the end of September, following a failure to reach a deal with the property’s owners. It is not clear whether the Grith Pioneers will operate the building themselves as an independent hostel (as is happening at The Ridgeway), or whether it will close altogether.

Taken with the closure of Matlock and Bakewell hostels already scheduled for this year (though replacements are being sought for both of them), this leaves only Youlgreave and a couple of camping barns to cover the South East part of the Peak District. Hopefully this gap can be quickly filled.

A Hostel that’s NOT closing

According to the Hereford Times, YHA has denied rumours that Kington YH is threatened with closure. On the contrary, funding arrangements will keep the hostel open for at least another 22 years.

So that’s good to know.
