Court Hill Offer

Filed under: Independents, News, Special OffersChris Hunt @ 8:35 pm

Following on from their Christmas promotion , the Court Hill Centre (formerly known as The Ridgeway Youth Hostel) has another offer for the new year:

The Court Hill Centre would like to offer all affiliated groups a winter warming offer of overnights for just £10 during February and March, and just £12 in April (and yes Easter is included!).

There must be at least 5 in your group but otherwise no strings.

“min of 5 people” > Does the Court Hill Trust not want any individuals anymore? I think it is a cheek to use YHA to cherry pick group buisness over many years then flee.

I think this website should clearly state that this ‘centre’ is no longer affiliated in any way to the YHA and can no longer call itself a Youth Hostel. I’m surprised this website (called “YHAGroup”) is advertising non-YHA properties as this could infer or be mis-interpreted as a relationship to YHA. Please be careful.

As I understand it, Court Hill remain open to individuals at their normal prices – they’re just making this offer to groups. Five-or-more was YHA’s definition of a group too, back when local groups got a discount, so this is nothing new.

It’s a bit silly to talk about them “cherry picking” or “fleeing”. They were part of the YHA network for some years then parted company, I made some comment about it at the time. I don’t think either side should feel hard done by.

There’s a clear message on their website, and on mine, that they were formerly with the YHA. It’s pretty obvious that they aren’t with them now. It makes sense to mention their previous identity, though, as many readers will be familiar with it. Note also that they don’t claim to be a youth hostel.

I’m always careful, but I make no apology for mentioning non-YHA accommodation on these pages. This is an independent website, not controlled or funded by YHA (there’s a note to that effect at the foot of each page). The aim of the site is to serve YHA groups and their members. If independent bodies make special offers to such groups, I’m happy to publicise them. If the YHA were to make such offers, I’d publicise them too.

If you, or your group, choose never to use non-YHA accommodation as a point of principle, I can respect that point of view, but I don’t share it. I know there are many YHA groups out there, my own being one of them, who use independents where YHA has nothing at a particular location or price range. I make no apology for being of service to such groups.

If anybody would like to write an article on why YHA groups shouldn’t use independent accommodation (or why they should for that matter), I’d be happy to publish it.

Chris is quite right, individuals and families are welcome, and offers do appear on our website, and there is one there now. This was an offer to groups on a groups’ website though. There is nothing cynical about it, many Yha local/Outdoor groups continue to come here and we are pleased to see them. We all worked for YHA and enjoy seeing some familiar faces.
