Good News – Do Nothing
At the YHA Annual General Meeting held on Sunday 10th September 2006 Local Groups have survived. Last March a communication was sent to all groups indicating that fundamental changes were needed to be made, including removing ‘YHA’ or ‘Youth Hostelling’ from the group name. This was based on the recommendations of the Group Task Group. This requirement was not accepted by the General Meeting. There is an obligation by the Board of Trustees not to get rid of Local Groups contrary to any rumours presently circulating. The best news is that no action must be taken to change your group name should your organisation have ‘YHA’ or ‘Youth Hostelling’ in its title.
No further details are available as no discussion has since taken place. It is imperative that your group is not involved in any action to remove these symbols of loyalty. It is understood that websites, group corporate clothing and group activity advertising is involved. A meeting of local groups will be held at Coalport Y.H. on Saturday 4th November 2006 and it is strongly encouraged that all groups send representatives. The agenda will include the new insurance scheme, and the revised booking conditions. This is an informal chance for you to hear the situation, offer your views and opinions and thereby contribute to the future development of local groups within YHA. The views expressed at the meeting will be taken into account.
To repeat do not involve your group in any action to remove ‘YHA’ and the triangle logo from any of your group advertising literature and clothing.

Just had a quick look before going to Newcastle’s pub night. Good from what I have seen.
