John Annett falls Ill
John Annett, Chair of YHA Southern Regional Council and stalwart of Croydon Local Group and of groups generally, has fallen seriously ill whilst travelling in Africa. He is currently in a coma and arrangements are being put in place to fly him home.
I know that everybody in the movement who knows John will be thinking of him and his family at this time, and wishing him a speedy recovery.

John is now in Mayday Hospital, Croydon and has come out of the coma. He falls in and out of sleep mode but can see and respond by touch. He is presently going to be transferred to Atkinson Morley hospital in tooting.
Mark 19,John Jnr 23 and wife Patricia would like his friends to visit him if they wish but to check with the hospital before going. He is likely to be in hospital at least 6 months.
Hi Jeff, another place to look for YHA orientated news is uk.rec.youth.hostel on Google Groups. Chris pops up on there as well.

The only thing I would advise about uk.rec.youth-hostel and I did make an error in the name, is caution, being a news group there are some strange opinions out there not necessarily youth hostel orientated.

Phil,
What is the best way of getting updates about john’s progress?

Update on my fathers progress
My father, John Annett has been at mayday hosptial in Croydon, Surrey now for 5 months and has fought tooth an nail to overcome this sudden an horrific accident.
The doctors said, ‘be prepared for your father never to speak again’…. try and stop him talking now!
His sheer determination has seen his movements improve dramatically and his ability to swallow, which was in question has now returned, so he can have a pint.
He is continueing to astound medical staff and visitors everday with his improvements, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.
He has now been accepted into Wolfson centre in Wimbledon ( the old atkinson morley hospital before it merged with St george’s in tooting) which is the next stage of his rehabilitation programme, he is on a waiting list of approximatley 3 months give or take, which although is long, is paramount to his recovery.
I will try an keep everyone updated as time goes on.
Myself and my family would like to take this opportunity to thank EVERYBODY for their well wishes, visits, Cards and Prayers.
Please continue to visit him as this is vital for his recovery, if you feel you require a more detailed update, do not hesistate to email me on markannett502@hotmail.com
John is still very poorly but stable, he is currently in the wolfson centre, copse hill, wimbledon. If any one wants to visit he should be in there untill the 10 september when he should be moved to a nursing home in west norwood. Unfortunatly things look dim for him and i suspect he will never recover to even a 50% of the way he was. Please all the emotional support you can give to him would be very helpfull.
Any more news on John’s progress please?
