More Broadsheet Approval
First it was the Telegraph, now it’s The Sunday Times. Their 10 Cosy Winter Places to Stay in Britain includes Hartington YH:
Log fires, oak wainscoting, mullioned windows: yep, this is a bona fide English manor-house stay for £19 a night. Hartington Hall dates from 1611 and looks the part — people even get married here. There are private ensuites as well as dorms, and it’s on the doorstep of Dovedale, Derbyshire’s sylvan valley extraordinaire, which looks especially sparky with a sprinkle of frost on its limestone crags.
Pair Hartington with a night at the even grander Ilam Hall hostel, at the other end of the dale, for the best-value walking weekend in Britain.
Couldn’t have put it better myself.
PS. I missed it at the time, but before Christmas they gave a really good write-up to Loch Ossian YH – a finalist in their “Green Spaces” awards.

This YHA does not need any publicity as it has high occupancy already. Won’t new customers be put off when they are told ‘we are full’. Shouldn’t YHA be trying to plug sites with low(er) occupancies?
But, as they say, any publicity is good publicity…… so I’ll not grumble too loudly.
Perhaps its occupancy isn’t as high as is wanted.
