The Cadbury Cup

The Cadbury Cup award is for YHA Local Groups, the winner of the annual competition is awarded the Cadbury Cup and with it the opportunity to organise the following years fun event.

The silver cup was first presented at the 1963 event, and has been regularly competed for annually ever since. By tradition the event is held at one of the Heart of England and Wye Valley Hostels during late September or early October.

Teams of 2 or 4 members are required to answer questions, perform simple tasks and progress along an orienteering type course at walking pace around a number of checkpoints, in a set time. It is not a race to complete the course in the shortest time. The accuracy of the answers, the entertainment value of the team performance of the various tasks and the route finding abilities of the competing teams being measured by the organisers. The winning team being that which in the opinion of the organisers was the best.

Groups can enter more than one team; fourteen group members could provide from four to seven teams. Non YHA teams have been allowed to compete but are excluded from holding the cup and organising the event.

It is essential to enter the competition well in advance and also book the group team into the hostel.

The detailed information sheet for the annual competition will appear in Group Post and also at various YHA hostels during the year.
