Use of the YHA Logo

All YHA Hostelling and Local Groups can use the YHA logo on all publicity material, in accordance with these guidelines. This enables the Group to tie in its identity with other Hostelling and Local Groups and the YHA generally. This can help to increase the success rate of recruiting new members and can assist when dealing with third parties because of the widespread recognition of the YHA logo. Hostelling and Local Groups can not use the Hostelling International Logo.

Some Groups have their own logo, which may give them a strong local or specialist identity. This too has advantages and may be used in conjunction with the YHA logo but must never be graphically combined with the YHA logo.

YHA produces many promotional leaflets bearing the YHA logo which may be of use to Groups when running a recruitment drive. These can be ordered from the Hostelling and Local Groups Officer at YHA National Office.

When using the YHA logo, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  1. The YHA logo must always be used in exactly the same form; not redrawn, embellished or altered.
  2. Wherever possible it should be used in the corporate green. Tell printers to use Pantone Number 347 and that it must be visually matched. Check proofs against a colour sample. NO OTHER COLOUR OR SHADE OF GREEN MAY BE USED.
  3. When working against an unsuitable background or in limited colours you may use black, or white out of a colour or photograph. APART FROM PANTONE NUMBER 347, ONLY BLACK AND WHITE MAY BE USED.
  4. The logo should be positioned so that it is not interfered with by other design elements, which can dilute its effect.
  5. For Hostelling and Local Group material it may be used with the words ‘Hostelling and Local Groups’ or ‘xxxxx Hostelling and Local Group’.
  6. All material must state clearly ‘Affiliated to the Youth Hostels Association (England and Wales)’.

Sheets of ‘bromide’ logos, colour pantone swatches and logos in electronic formats are available from the Hostelling and Local Groups Officer at YHA National Office. If you have any doubts about the use of the YHA logo please contact either the Hostelling and Local Groups Officer.
